Time. How Do You Manage It?

Written by Molly Pearson

Writing a blog has been my biggest nightmare!  Every since I had my first child (Cora who is now 4) my family has asked me to start a blog so I can post pictures of the kids and they can keep updated on our quickly changing lives. I have protested; ignored them, turned and ran away. But now… here I am!  They are going to hate meJ

My biggest reason against writing my own blog was due to time…I have none.  Between running my own business (TruGrit Concepts), taking care of two children, WNWO Moms on the Go, my family and every other thing I have to do on a given day, I could not see adding one more thing to the list. Plus, if I am going to commit to something than I am going to do it right and give it 100%.  I do not have the ability to give anything less; it is not in my DNA.

A few weeks ago I noticed that when I was home after work my kids would repeatedly being saying; Mom, Moom, Mooom, MOOOOMMM, jumping up and down or doing anything they could to get my attention!  I found myself getting frustrated with them, loudly saying back, “can you give me one second?”  “I have to finish this email, or text, or Facebook post or Twitter comment!”  Until one day my tiny, sweet, kind, 4 year old looked at me with such MASSIVE disappointment and said “I just wanted to tell you a story about something that happened today, that’s all!”  I immediately set my phone down; picked her up, apologized and giving her my full attention asked her to please tell me her story. What I realized in her five second look and short little sentence is that I was not giving my children 100%.  I had become that mother I said I never would. Before I had kids I always said how difficult it has to be to work and have children. How at the end of the day all children want, NO deserve, is your time. You are their life line, their best friend, their problem solver and super hero. There is no one that will ever be able to take that place or teach them the things you will. Nor will you ever get back that five minutes where they needed to tell you something soooo important to them and you did not listen.

From that day on (this was recent to be honest) I made a commitment that after 5:00pm emails, Facebook, Twitter or text messages do not get answered until my kids have gone to bed. From 8:30am to 5:00pm I give the rest of the universe my attention, 100% of it and that is enough, it has to be enough.  I have two tiny little souls that deserve 120% and I intend to give it to them!

How do you manage work, social media, text messages, emails and all of the other daily things that are thrown your way?
